Our product portfolio includes centrifugal gas compressors up to 40 MW, steam turbines up to 600 MW, and hydraulic turbines up to 60 MW, together with all the related auxiliaries required for the smooth and reliable operation of our customers’ production processes. Based in Legnano, Italy, near Malpensa Airport, Franco Tosi Meccanica S.p.A. operates from a total area of 110,000 square meters, 75,000 of which are covered, with no limitations for trucks and heavy transportation. One hundred overhead cranes, with lifting capacities of up to 150 tons, ensure the safe handling of compressor and turbine packages and provide the flexibility required to meet customers’ layout and handling requirements.
Integrated manufacturing and testing capabilities
The production machinery and equipment available at Franco Tosi Meccanica S.p.A. enable a smooth, fully integrated internal production cycle, from the machining of castings and forgings through to the assembly and testing of our rotating equipment. Our facilities include vertical lathes with turntable diameters of up to 15 meters; horizontal lathes for components up to 12 meters in length; and a rotor welding station capable of welding complex turbine shafts, using two different steels, with diameters of up to 3 meters and weights of up to 250 tons.
Our facilities also include a high-speed balancing bunker with a capacity of up to 6 meters in diameter and 150 tons, multiple low-speed balancing machines, and two overspeed testing machines. In addition to our production facilities, Franco Tosi Meccanica S.p.A. operates three compressor test bays with up to 10 MW of installed power, enabling compressor testing in accordance with ASME PTC 10 Type 1 and Type 2, including testing with hydrocarbons. We also have a dedicated test bay equipped with a workshop condenser for the mechanical running tests of steam turbines.
Decades of experience and long-term support
Since the early 1960s, a huge number of centrifugal compressors and steam turbines have left our Legnano workshop and been delivered to plants around the world. In many cases, these machines are still in operation after more than 40 years, supporting the production of hydrocarbon derivatives, industrial gases, polymers, and energy. Today, through strategic synergies and the contribution of experienced engineers and qualified partners, we offer the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Industrial Gases, Power Generation, and Waste- to-Energy markets a broad portfolio of equipment and services.
