ARGOS SURFACE TECHNOLOGIES

WHERE PERFORMANCE BEGINS: THE STRATEGIC VALUE OF SURFACE TREATMENTS

THE COMPANY
Argos Surface Technologies is an Italian industrial group specializing in surface treatments and coatings— including nickel plating, anodizing, cataphoresis, industrial coatings, polymers, metallization, and electroplating— applied to metals, plastics, and carbon fiber. The Group’s technologies ensure durability, highquality standards, and customized finishes for the most demanding industrial sectors. Founded in 2020 on the initiative of the Gradiente II fund (Gradiente SGR), the Group has progressively integrated several centers of excellence in the sector; in 2025, it was acquired by the London-based fund EMK Capital. Today, it reports approximately €80 million in revenue, 500 employees, and 15 operational sites across Lombardy, Piedmont, and Emilia-Romagna.

In modern industry, performance increasingly depends on materials and, above all, on surfaces, which determine their resistance and durability. From automotive components to continuous packaging lines and energy infrastructure, the real challenge lies in how surfaces interact with their surrounding environment. This is where surface engineering becomes a critical factor: what was once considered a simple final step is now a strategic lever. Surface treatments directly impact durability, resistance to wear and corrosion, smoothness, reliability, and efficiency—variables that are becoming increasingly central in an industrial context where downtime, maintenance, and lifecycle costs are under constant pressure.

This paradigm shift is driven by several factors. On one hand, there is a growing demand for more durable components; on the other, the need to ensure production continuity. In highly intensive sectors, even minimal variations in friction or resistance can translate into significant losses. In this scenario, surface treatments are evolving from protective coatings into true technological solutions. Technologies such as nickel plating, anodizing, galvanizing and electroplating, cataphoresis (e-coating) and industrial coatings, polymers and metallization are engineered to impart specific properties: corrosion resistance, wear resistance, hardness, friction reduction, thermal resistance, antibacterial performance, or aesthetic quality.

“It is no longer about applying a standard treatment” said Paolo Grimaldi, Italy AD of Argos Surface Technologies,“Today, we deliver tailored solutions, calibrated according to the material, the application sector, and the operating conditions.” It is precisely on this integration of expertise and technologies that the model of Argos Surface Technologies is built—an Italian industrial group established in 2020 and rapidly grown to reach approximately €80 million in revenue, 500 employees, and 15 operational sites across Northern and Central Italy. Through a path of targeted acquisitions and technological development, the Group has built an ecosystem capable of combining multiple technologies and specializations. The result is a multi-technology approach that enables the transition from standardized treatments to integrated solutions, optimized for each specific industrial need. This model makes it possible to combine complementary treatments in sequence, enhancing overall performance -from corrosion to wear resistance- and to manage preliminary process stages such as sandblasting and masking, which are essential to ensure precision, treatment selectivity, and the quality of the final result.

The impact extends across numerous sectors: from automotive and electric mobility to energy, robotics, design, mechanical and industrial manufacturing, and aerospace. “Today, the Group is able to offer technologically advanced solutions and high-quality standards,” concludes Grimaldi. “A journey built over time through targeted acquisitions and industrial development, which has progressively expanded the technological portfolio and territorial presence. Each integration has strengthened expertise and production capabilities, enabling us to respond ever more effectively to the needs of complex and highly regulated markets.”
