POLYLAYERTECH
The Italian company Polylayertech was founded after many years working in the extrusion of Polypropylene corrugated boards in all kinds of profiles. The reusable PP packaging is one of the key. This enable PolylayerTech to be one step ahead in sealing and converting market of Polypropylene extrusion grade and profile. The flexibility of the sealing and converting problems remains our main target. PolylayerTech is located in the North East of Italy, very close to the well- known city of Venice. We are operating in the post Polypropylene extrusion sealing and converting markets and products. Our mission is to solve the welding and converting problem with specific and special customize lines, i.e. edge sealing line for layer pad either on line sealing, sleeves pack,
boxes, thick and light material, medical boxes, protection packaging and all other requirements for our customers.
We are working as a worldwide consulting company in extrusion, welding converting PP sheets, business plan, temporary management, Project Leader and new products, bringing to the market innovative, value added, and consumer green packaging solutions. Our team enables us to provide personalized consulting services. The combination of our unique specialized skill sets in plastic extrusion, converting, packaging, process machinery put us in the lead position, worldwide. Our passion is to innovate and develop turn-key custom effective solutions for plastics packaging and visual markets.
That being said, plastics keeps an important role as it’s being demonized and responsible of about 2.5 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste generated each year in the UK. As the recycling of it is becoming higher year after year, the target of recycling rates is to get from 44,2% in 2021 to 50% in 2025 and to 55% by 2030. But this is far from being the only way to increase the sustainability of the material. Actually, the decrease of carbon emissions for
plastics can be reached by many ways. One way could be to increase recycling after use, and this can be achieved either by mechanical recycling or chemical recycling. The other way to decrease plastics packaging emissions is to make it more durable.
That can be achieved through a circular model being implemented. Indeed, reusable plastic packaging, that have a longer lifespan outperform their cardboard counterparts when being used over 6 times. They also show a significant decrease in carbon dioxide when being recycled compared to cardboard.
In this context, it is obvious that even if many aspects are to be considered in this changing era, there are still an important point to be taken into consideration which is to choose the most sustainable packaging as possible for the dedicated application. Recycled plastics are derived from post-consumer or post-industrial plastic waste. This waste is collected, sorted, cleaned, and processed to create new plastic products. In contrast, virgin plastics are produced from raw petrochemical feedstock, such as crude oil or natural gas, which undergo refining and chemical processes to yield plastic resins.
Opting for recycled plastics not only reduces the demand for new plastic production but also conserves natural resources like oil, saves energy, and mitigates greenhouse gas emissions.
Additionally, it helps divert plastic waste from landfills and oceans. Conversely, the production of virgin plastics necessitates substantial energy consumption and exhausts natural resources. It also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and pollution throughout extraction, refining, and manufacturing processes.
The quality of recycled plastics may vary based on factors such as plastic type, source, and recycling techniques. Occasionally, recycled plastics may exhibit slight differences in characteristics compared to virgin plastics. Virgin plastics are generally more consistently high- quality and deliver superior performance when compared to recycled plastics. They are typically preferred for applications that prioritize specific properties.
Recycled plastics can sometimes be more cost-effective to produce than virgin plastics since they do not require the extraction and refining of raw materials. Conversely, the production of virgin plastics, particularly during periods of high petrochemical feedstock prices, can be more expensive.
The cost of virgin plastics can fluctuate due to market dynamics.
Recycled plastics contribute to a circular economy by prolonging material life and reducing waste. They also encourage the utilization of existing resources, rather than relying solely on new materials. However, the production of virgin plastics relies on finite fossil fuel resources, which can deplete resources and cause energy scarcity. It’s important to note that the price differential between
recycled and virgin resin can fluctuate over time due to market dynamics, government policies, and consumer.
