INTERVIEW WITH OVIDIO MARZI, SOLE DIRECTOR OF PLURISERVICE GROUP
Automatic identification and data management technologies are now at the core of modern business operations. In this interview, Ovidio Marzi, Sole Director of Pluriservice Group, reflects on the company’s 40-year journey and shares insights on the evolution of the sectorfrom barcodes to RFIDalong with the key trends shaping the future of digital transformation.
Pluriservice has been operating for years in the field of automatic identification and technologies for operational management in companies and retail environments. How was the company founded and how has it evolved over these 40 years?
The Pluriservice Group was founded in 1986 from a clear intuition: IT should not remain confined to offices, but move into the field, into stores, warehouses and production lines. Over these 40 years, thanks to the synergy between our companies (Pluriservice S.p.A., Pluriservice Solutions, Storm Open Solutions, Raining Labels, Proget Sistem Italia, and All In One), we have evolved from pioneers of early barcode printing and reading systems into an integrated technological ecosystem. This evolution has been constant: we started as specialized distributors and have transformed into a Group that designs and manufactures its own solutions. Today, with multiple locations across Italy and an international presence, we are a reference point for those seeking not just a product, but a partner capable of orchestrating hardware, software, and consumables (labels and thermal ribbons) within a single, cohesive vision.
In recent years, the management of operational data and traceability has become a strategic element for industrial, logistics, and retail companies. From your perspective, how has the automatic identification sector evolved – from barcodes to RFID technologies – and what are the main needs driving companies to adopt these solutions today?
The sector has evolved from simply “reading a code” to the intelligent, real-time management of data. While barcodes remain the foundation for data accuracy, RFID has revolutionized speed and scalability: today, an entire pallet can be identified without line-of-sight, eliminating human error and bottlenecks.
Companies are no longer just asking to “track,” but to gain predictive visibility. The primary need is extreme efficiency: reducing stockouts in retail, ensuring regulatory compliance in the food sector, and optimizing just-in-time flows in industry. Technology is no longer an accessory cost, but the nervous system of the company. In addition to supplying hardware and software, Pluriservice also offers consultancy and specialized support services.
How do you support clients throughout the implementation process, and what are the key elements to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability over time?
Our approach is never “off the shelf.” We support our clients with a preliminary onsite analysis, because every warehouse and production line presents unique challenges.
The key elements of our approach are:
•Reliability: A widespread technical support network that ensures business continuity.
•Scalability: We design modular solutions that grow with the company, preventing today’s investment from becoming tomorrow’s limitation.
•Integration: We ensure our systems seamlessly interface with existing ERP and WMS platforms, streamlining the flow of information.
Your technologies are applied across various sectors, from industrial production to logistics and retail. Can you share some concrete examples of how the adoption of RFID solutions, automatic labeling systems, or data collection terminals has improved operational efficiency and inventory management for your clients?
We have supported manufacturing companies where the integration of Print & Apply automatic labeling systems has eliminated downtime caused by manual application, increasing productivity by 30%. In logistics and retail, the adoption of RFID portals has transformed inventory from a complex semi-annual activity into an almost real-time daily process, bringing stock accuracy close to 99%.
Additionally, next-generation data collection terminals, with advanced ergonomics and Android OS, have significantly reduced operator training time, making picking operations faster and less stressful.

What are the main goals and strategic directions Pluriservice is focusing on to continue innovating and supporting companies in their digital transformation?
Our key development directions for the near future are clear: Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud. We are investing in low environmental impact consumables and in software capable of analyzing big data generated by sensors to prevent failures and autonomously optimize logistics flows. Our goal is to make technology “invisible” yet omnipresent: solutions that allow people to work better and companies to remain agile in an increasingly unpredictable market.
We will continue to innovate while maintaining the pragmatism that let us to reach our 40-year milestone.
