Dr Ferhat Eryurt explains how procurement experts apsolut helped transform a wind turbine company based in Germany to deal with the challenges of the global marketplace

We face continuing Covid outbreaks affecting global supply chains, price inflation and sanctions imposed on Russia because of the conflict in Ukraine, all impacting our procurement operations. Enercon, a foundation-run company based in northern Germany, had been operating successfully since the 1980s manufacturing wind turbines – until radical regulatory changes in 2017 forced it to take urgent action.
In order to be competitive in a globalised world, it took measures to stabilise and realign its operations by adopting strategies for digitalisation, internationalisation and cost reduction.
Reviewing its sourcing meant supply chains became more international and now included component suppliers in Poland, Portugal, Turkey, India and other Asian countries – it had successfully globalised its supply operations and doubled the number of its employees in Global Procurement in just three years.
Working with procurement specialists apsolut, the company digitised its strategic procurement processes by implementing SAP Ariba, with solutions including Supplier Lifecycle and Performance, Risk, Sourcing and Contract Management.
To reveal weaknesses in the new processes, we helped with best-practice solutions and added Enercon- specific requirements to involve interfaces and stakeholders more effectively.
This meant transparency for all users, an onboarding process through Ariba and internal online training carried out by apsolut before each implementation.
