Carlo Salvi accelerates digitalization and R&D

The Italian specialist for high-tech header machines got through the pandemic well – and is setting ambitious goals for the future.

What began with the company foundation in Milan in 1939 has developed over the decades into a leading global technology company based in Garlate, specializing in the manufacture of headers for cold and hot wire forming. Today, the largest producers of fasteners, for example in the automotive and aerospace industries, rely on Carlo Salvi to increase their productivity. Carlo Salvi, a member of the Swiss Hatebur Group, stands for precision and efficiency.
In order to expand this status of technology leader, Carlo Salvi is pushing digitalization and R&D. Marco Pizzi, C.C.O. at Carlo Salvi: “Industry 4.0 and digitalization are not just buzzwords for us. The integration of software and the development of versatile headers make our customers more productive and economical.”
The company got through the Covid pandemic well: “90% of our sales are generated in exports. Thanks to good results in international markets and our strengths in digitalization, we had a good year,” reports Mr. Pizzi. By investing in digitalization, Carlo Salvi was able to put every delivered machine through its paces using remote access and thus offer customers uncomplicated and quick service even in the midst of a lockdown.
Turnkey solutions
Carlo Salvi offers turnkey solutions from a single source. The entire production process can be tailored, managed, and coordinated, from initial consultations through development and manufacture to customer service. The Carlo Salvi forming machines offer a lot of possibilities: thread rolling, drilling, and tapping are just a few of the many applications. They are specifically developed to meet customer needs and to master complex shapes without any problems. All the headers are equipped with a management system that enables the processes to be monitored at any time via remote access.
Marco Pizzi: “We offer an extensive Industry 4.0 service package for maintenance and operation. For us, the interconnectedness is an opportunity to continue to deepen our expertise and drive market expansion. Looking to the future, we will continue to increase investments in R&D.” Carlo Salvi engineers are currently working on the first machine that combines high-performance heading with a thread rolling unit. “This project is central because it creates a new product line and enables expansion into new industries,” emphasizes Mr. Pizzi.
The employees are the backbone
The company is aware of the crucial role that in-house know-how plays. “The employees are the backbone of Carlo Salvi. The planned recruitment of skilled workers affects various areas of the company, in organization, management and development. “As a leading company that is active in a niche, we always have to be prepared for new trends and market requirements. This requires an international team of experts, and we believe that additional specialist staff and investments in R&D can give our company a further boost. “
In the pandemic year 2020, Carlo Salvi emphasized the ties to the region and the importance of employees for the company’s success. Marco Pizzi: “This employee-oriented philosophy makes a major contribution to our success.”
